Xiaomi Redmi 2 set to get a price cut in India

Xiaomi India has teased an upcoming Redmi-related announcement through its social platforms. Although the announcement will be made tomorrow, the teaser post hints at a price cut.

The post reads: '7th July 10am on mi.com/in. Put it down on your to-do list now. Share and remind your friends too!'

It is accompanied by a picture that features the new price of the smartphone, partly hidden. However on closer inspection, one can identify that it reads Rs 5,999. The image further says, "To do: Paint the town red. Get ready to change your phone.
  

The teaser suggests that Xiaomi is marking down the price of Redmi 2 smartphone from Rs 6,999 to Rs 5,999.

At the new price, Xiaomi Redmi 2 will be competing with the likes of Samsung Galaxy Core 2 Duos, Huawei Honor Holly, and Lava Iris X1 Grand.

The Redmi 2 smartphone features 4.7-inch HD display and runs Android 4.4 KitKat skinned with MIUI 6.0 software. Powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and 1GB RAM, Redmi 2 has 8GB of internal storage and can house microSD cards of up to 32GB.

The phone also sports an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera and packs a 2,200mAh battery.
